Gil Scott Heron The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

Written by Delmar Napue

After another disappointing release from Kanye West last year I went back in his catalog and decided to listen to some of the music that I felt made him great. I start with Late Registration, An album that was filled with soul beats, one of a kind features, and most importantly, samples. I’m skimming song after song until I reach the 7th track “My Way Home” featuring another Chicago legend, Common. I press play and suddenly I’m hit with a smooth, slowed down, jazzy voice singing “I’m on my way home”. Curiosity sets in as I’m now googling who it was Kanye sampled until the name Gil Scott Heron pops up.Continue reading

Xzibiting Myself

Xzibiting Myself

By Pendarvis Harshaw

It was around the time Cash Money took over for the ‘99 and the 2000, back when Jay-Z decided to create a dynasty like no other and Outkast humbly apologized to Ms. Jackson, that’s when it all happened. But there’s one person who I was heavily influenced by during that time period. One person who probably wouldn’t appear on any major monument dedicated to West Coast rappers. One person, who to this day, continues to produce media: Xzibit.Continue reading

What A DAMN Knight!

What A DAMN Knight!

Written by Jennifer Alfaro

As soon as Kendrick Lamar announced he would be hitting the road on the DAMN tour with Travis Scott, D.R.A.M., and YG on select dates, I mentally prepared my pockets. Being an avid concert goer, I REFUSE to be far from any performer, especially my favorites like King Kendrick. This can mean sitting outside a venue for hours to be first row, or in this case, buying overpriced resold tickets off StubHub. It is what it is for the love of music!

Fans showed up in thousands to the first sold out show in Brooklyn, coming to support not only Kendrick but also Travis Scott. Continue reading
